On September the 3rd, 2015 the Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T) Dr. Chaesub Lee delivered a public lecture to students and teachers of the Bonch-Bruevich St.Petersburg State University for Telecommunications (SPbSUT).
In his lecture Dr. Chaesub Lee spoke about ITU-T activities and shared his vision of how to improve Information and Communication Technologies / ICT so that they could be focused on a person and make advanced information infrastructure accessible to all people worldwide.
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). SPbSUT is a member of the ITU contributing to an embodiment of the idea of development and deployment of broadband and mobile communications.
In 2010 the number of devices connected to the Internet has exceeded the number of people on our planet. This poses challenges for the ITU global standards, protection of personal Data, the organization of Cyberspace.
Dr Lee in his speech highlighted the theme of «Vision 2020» which will allow to «TRUST» things. It sounds impossible but the lecturer told «Everything is in our hands» — in future generation professionals. Students do have a great variety of opportunities. And at SPbSUT there is plenty of opportunities for their implementation, for ex. «Internet of Things» Laboratory, IPTV and quality perception laboratory, Laboratory of flying sensor networks and many others. Students can try their hand in the competitive procedure to take part in the most prestigious conference in the world of telecommunications «Kaleidoscope». Moreover, our university for the first time in Russia was adjusted to organize the International Conference «Kaleidoscope — 2014»
Following the results of the event SPbSUT Rector and a Member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Networks and Services Sergey Bachevsky presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Chaesub Lee for his active participation and significant contribution to international dissemination of telecommunication standardization awareness among the ICT students.
